  • - Mini-facelift surgery is mainly performed on the mid-face and jawline and aims to remove excess fat on the neck.
  • - It is performed without general anaesthetic but by sedation and local anaesthetic.
  • - The operation normally takes 1 to 1.5 hours.
  • - The patient will stay overnight at the hospital.
  • - Any scars are unnoticeable since they are hidden in natural skin creases and on the hairline.
  • - Pain is very rare and can be suppressed with analgesics.
  • - Patients can resume normal life after 7-10 days post operation.

Why and how does the face age?

Like all other organs, skin ages with the passing years. Fine lines and sagging usually starts in the 40s, and develops to deeper wrinkles and loss of volume in the 50s, resulting in changes in the facial expression. These changes take place as a result of genetic and time factors but other external factors such as gravity, smoking, stress, nutrition and sleeping patterns make a remarkable impact on the visual aging process. The usual aging patterns include drooping of the eyebrows, bagging on the upper and lower eyelids, decreasing fat on the cheekbones resulting in drooping of the cheeks, and regional fat deposition, wrinkles and sagging on the neck area.

Contrary to popular belief, these symptoms are not the result of skin sagging and decreasing fat tissue, but rather the shrinkage and regression of the two arches; the cheek bone arch and jaw bone arches. These arches are responsible for holding the face in place.

The methods used to overcome these problems in the face differ according to the person’s age and the condition of their face. For example, if the patient is between the ages of 40 to 50 with minor sagging and loosening on the face, Micro-Lift method may be a good option, since it does not require any incisions and leaves no scars (it is applied by entering through the needle punctures). If the patient is over 50 years of age and the amount of sagging and loosening in the skin is excessive, the Mini-Lift method may be a better option. This method applies minimal incisions and the scars are hidden in the hair and behind the ear flaps.

Which methods can be used for face-lift surgery?

In face-lift surgery, three basic treatment methods are applied according to the degree of sagging in the skin. Minor sagging issues can be remedied using the Micro-Lift method, where the skin is lifted up and suspensions are applied through tiny holes. The Mini-Lift operation takes around 1 to 1.5 hours to complete. With medium-level sagging conditions, patients will require sedation and local anaesthetic. For older patients with more serious sagging issues, a full face-lift operation is performed.

What is a Mini-facelift surgery?

The Mini-Lift is a face-lift operation that uses minimal incisions to remove sagging and deformations that have formed due to aging - usually in the face, midface, sides of the jaw, and neck areas. In this surgery, incisions are hidden in the natural folds and the hairline, so there are no visible, obvious scars. After this face-lift surgery, which is performed under sedation (without the need of general anaesthesia), the patient will usually look around 10 years younger and will continue the aging process from that point onwards.

Who are ideal candidates for the Mini-facelift?

The Mini-Lift is generally offered to people with deformations and sagging on the face, jaw sides and neck areas. It is usually recommended for people over 50 years of age.

How is the Mini-facelift surgery performed?

The new techniques in face-lift operations provide more natural results, much shorter scars and reduce the duration of the operation. In previous methods, the sagging of the skin used to be redressed by lifting the skin, while in Mini-Lift operations, the problem is solved by transforming the subdermal tissues to their original places. This is what makes the patient look naturally 10 to 12 years younger without changing the expression.

Mini-facelift surgery is an operation performed in a hospital environment, without the need of general anaesthetic, but under sedation and local anaesthetic. It is recommended that the patient stays overnight in the hospital. Mini-Lift surgery takes around 1 to 1.5 hours with incisions inside and back of the ear. No scars are visible to the eye as they are hidden in natural skin folds and through the hairline. It can be performed in conjunction with other operations, for example eye lid surgery or fat injections etc - depending on the specific needs of the patient.

How long does a Mini-facelift operation last?

Historically, face-lift operations have been lengthy procedures, resulting in higher pain levels and longer healing time. Modern technology and today’s techniques mean that a Mini-Lift operation lasts around 1 to 1.5 hours, it is painless and healing time is much faster.

What are the advantages of a Mini-Lift operation?

One advantage of the Mini-Lift operation is that scars are hidden in natural skin folds and inside the hairline. Another advantage is the ability to create perfectly natural looking results whilst taking around 10 years off the patient’s appearance. The short duration of the surgery enables the use of sedation rather than general anaesthetic. Because of the techniques used, bruising and swellings are minor and heal very fast. That means the patient can return to normal life in around 7 to 10 days.

When can the patient go back to normal life after a Mini-facelift Surgery?

After a Mini-Lift surgery, it is recommended that the patient spend the first night at the hospital. The bandages are removed after two days. Very rarely some discomfort may occur which can easily be controlled with simple pain killers. Minor bruising and swelling is possible in the first few days after the surgery but this will heal completely in one week. The patient can return to daily life in one to two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main factors to be considered before a Mini-facelift operation?

As with all surgical procedures, we recommend to patients that they stop using blood thinners before the operation.

What are the factors to be considered after the surgery?

Smoking should be avoided for 10 to 14 days after the surgery as well as activities which might increase blood pressure for 5 to 7 days.

Are there any changes to facial expression after surgery?

The Mini-facelift operation is not about creating a new face but rather restoring tissues that have deformed over time.

Are the results of a Mini-Lift operation permanent?

The results of the Mini-Lift operation are permanent. After the Mini-facelift surgery, ten years may be taken off the appearance, but the aging process continues as usual.

Can a Mini-Lift surgery be combined with different operations?

Yes. Depending on the need of the patient, it can be performed together with other operations (eye lid, stem cell, nose surgeries, fat injections etc.).

Is Mini-Lift a painful operation?

Patients do not experience any pain after these surgeries but may encounter a sensation of pressure or tension. These feelings completely dissolve in a few days time.
