What is Micro-Lift Surgery?

Over time, the facial bones begin to shrink, making the supporting tissues of the skin in the mid and lower sections of the face sag as they succumb to gravity. However, around the age of 30 to 40, when there is only a relatively minor level of sagging, the tissues can be moved and fixed to their original places. This procedures is called the Micro-Lift.

It is important not to confuse Micro-Lift operations (Endolifting) with similar operations such as the thread lift, suture suspensions, attachments and spider web, where tiny sutures are placed under the skin and their effect passes in a couple of months.

The Micro-Lift can be described as a type of closed face-lifting procedure. In this operation, the surgeon enters from a tiny incision then lifts and sutures the internal tissue. Micro-Lift is a popular operation that permanently resolves sagging on cheeks, neck and on the sides of the jaw.

Who can benefit the most from the Micro-Lift?

Contrary to common belief, the appearance of aging is not in fact the result of skin sagging and decreasing fat tissue, but rather the shrinkage and regression of the two arches; the cheek bone arch and the jaw bone arches - both of which hold the face in place. This shrinkage is what makes the skin sag and symptoms of aging start to appear.

The Micro-Lift is suitable for people who have a slight sagging on the mid-face, usually over the age of 35 years of age, but do not not have enough sagging to require facelift surgery. Historically there has been no suitable operation for this patient age group and any deformations in the face could not be resolved by non-surgical procedures such as filling and botox. Today, the Micro-Lift method allows this age group to go back at least 5 years and continue naturally aging from this point onwards.

How is the Micro-Lift performed?

In the Micro-Lift application, the sub-dermal tissues are moved to their original places, and, similar to a facelift operation, they are sutured in a solid area. After the Micro-Lift application, it is possible to obtain scar free, permanent and natural results. With the Micro-Lift method, temporal sides, sides of the jaw, cheeks and neck can be sutured.

How long does a Micro-Lift operation last?

The operation does not require general anaesthetic, it is performed under sedation and local anaesthetic. Micro-Lift surgery takes 20 to 30 minutes on average. Since tissues on the face are not opened, the operation is scar free and the patient heals quickly and can return to normal life in a short time. This operation may not be as effective in cases of excessive sagginess of the skin or when the skin elasticity is not good, making this ideal for patients between 35 to 50 years of age.

What are the advantages of Micro-Lift surgery?

One of the most important advantages of Micro-Lift surgery is that it is carried out under sedation without the need of general anaesthetic. Operating under sedation does not require hospitalisation and accelerates the healing process. Another advantage is that it leaves no scars. Micro-Lift operations are often performed with fat injections.

When can the patient go back to normal life after a Micro-Lift surgery?

The patient may go back to normal life in 3 to 4 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main factors to be considered before a Micro-Lift operation?

As with all surgical procedures, we recommend to patients that they stop using aspirin and blood thinners three weeks before the operation.

What factors should be considered after surgery?

Micro-Lifting can be done under sedation and local anaesthetic or with local anaesthetic alone. The operation does not require any hospital stay, and the patient can return home a few hours after the procedure. Following the operation, there may be swelling in the area, especially over the first two days. The application area can be washed the day after the operation and moisturising and anti-bruise creams can be used.

Is there any change in facial expressions after the surgery?

The Micro-Lift operation does not create a new face, but simply restores the tissues that have deformed over time to create a naturally more youthful result.

Can Micro-Lift surgery be combined with different operations?

Depending on the need of the patient, the Micro-Lift can be performed in conjunction with other operations (eyelid operations, neck lift, fat injections, stem cell etc.).

Is the Micro-Lift a painful operation?

If the Micro-Lift surgery is made on the neck and jaw line, discomfort can be experienced behind the ear for 1-2 days. This can be controlled using simple painkillers. This sensation will completely disappear after this time.
