Breast Lift

Enjoy natural looking breasts that are perfectly in proportion with your figure.

  • - This surgery eliminates deformations on the breasts. If there is not sufficient volume, silicone implants may be required.
  • - It is performed under general anaesthetic.
  • - The operation takes around 1.5-2.5 hours.
  • - Patients can go home same day.
  • - Generally the lift involves an incision made to circle the nipple (areola), going vertically downwards. This can sometimes turn into an inverted T shape, depending on the size of the breasts.
  • - Bandages are released 3 days after the operation and the patient can go back to normal life.
  • - Sports bras must be worn for 3 weeks after surgery.
  • - Breast lift surgery does not prevent breastfeeding.

Why do breasts sag?

There are many different reasons for sagging breasts. Generally, the loosening of the ligaments that hold the breast tissue in place, weight changes, breastfeeding and gravity can cause inconsistencies between the tissue and the skin. Another reason is breast size. Generally, women with very large breasts suffer from sagging problems - and often a number of other complaints.

How is breast lift (mastopexy) surgery performed?

In aesthetic breast lifting surgery, the sagging breast tissue is reshaped, excess skin is removed, and the nipple is placed in the correct position. The aim of breast surgery is to reshape the breasts so that they are proportionate with the body, to reduce the scar to a minimal level and to make the two breasts symmetrical.

The surgery method is determined according to the condition of the patient. If the chest wall is descended, then it will not be possible to build up the breast with an implant alone and it will require an upward lift. If the breasts are very large, it will be necessary to remove tissue from the breast while lifting it up and if the breast is small and empty, to put an implant into the breast before lifting.

One important part of breast surgery is ensuring that the breasts are relocated to the perfect place. This may require decreasing the breast tissue or enlarging the breast with an implant. The procedure involves opening up the skin, lifting the nipple up without detaching it from the back, and removing the excess skin underneath. The biggest advantage of this technique is that the nipple is not separated from the breast. This way the milk ducts are not cut off and do not prevent breastfeeding. Additionally there is no loss of sensation.

How long does breast lifting surgery last?

Breast operations are generally positioned as simple procedures. Minor pain can be experienced after the surgery which can be eliminated with simple painkillers. The average time of the operation is 1.5 hours.

What are the advantages of breast lifting surgery?

Sagging due to excessive breast size can cause various problems such as neck and back pain, slouching, skin irritations, and tissue injury due to bras. These symptoms and posture disorders are eliminated after the excess tissue is removed during breast lifting surgery.

Breasts have an important role in women's psychology. After all breast surgeries, patients talk about renewed confidence, improved posture and other positive effects.

Are any scars left after breast lifting surgery?

If the patient has small breasts with little sagging then the scarring will be around the nipple. If sagging is slightly more pronounced, it will go down the perimeter of the nipple and be lollipop shaped. In very severe sagging and large breast sizes, the scar takes an inverted T-shape around the nipple, going downward. Note that the depths of these scars are more distinctive during the 3 months after the operation, but after about one year, the scar turns into a thin white line. It is up to the patient to decide whether they are happy to live with a small scar.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main factors to be considered before a breast lifting surgery?

We always recommend patients have a breast ultrasound before the breast lift operation. Patients should avoid using blood thinners such as aspirin and painkillers containing ibuprofen and flu medicine for at least one week before surgery. It is also recommended not to consume substances known as blood thinners such as Vitamin E ginseng, green tea, herbal teas and flax seeds. Patients should stop smoking for at least one week before surgery.

What about after surgery?

We recommend wearing sports bras for 3 weeks after the surgery. Mild pain may be experienced in the first days after the operation, which can easily be controlled using simple painkillers.

Does breast lifting surgery prevent breastfeeding?

In breast lifting surgery, ducts are not disturbed as the nipples are not disconnected from the breasts. Having this operation therefore will not prevent breastfeeding.

In what kind of situations is a breast lifting surgery necessary, can sagging be eliminated only with implants?

Although it is not a common situation, it is possible to fill the breast tissue and lift the nipple to a slightly higher location. The purpose of breast prosthesis is not to lift the breast but only to augment it.

Are the results of breast lifting surgery permanent?

It is possible to obtain permanent results in breast lifting surgeries. The shape of the chest will set fully in the 3 months after surgery but the form may naturally change with aging and gravity. For the best long-term results, patients should maintain a healthy weight and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
