Achieve the perfect workout tummy after the operation with no pain at all.

Inverse Abdominoplasty (Corset Tummy Tuck)

- It is performed when both the skin and abdominal muscles have lost elasticity and became flaccid.
- No pain is felt due to the operational method and special injections used throughout the operation.
- It is performed under general anaesthesia.
- An aesthetically supreme waist definition, a more muscly appearance and a better reverse lifting of the groin is obtained
- The operation takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours on average.
- Patient is cared for one night at the hospital.
- The scar is somewhat longer than a typical caesarean section scar and is hidden under the bikini line.
- Four to 5 days are enough time to recover and go back to normal life. A compression garment must be worn for 3 weeks.
- Pregnancy can be planned after 1 year.

Edited by Tunc Tiryaki, MD., the book 'Inverse Abdominoplasty' is the first international medical book, written by a Turkish team and published by SPRINGER VERLAG. Here, we discuss the special techniques of this operation in which patients obtain a full workout tummy without any pain.

What is the tummy tuck, and who can benefit the most from it?

The people who require tummy tuck operations fall into three main groups.

 1. People with fine skin elasticity, no loosening in the abdominal wall, only sub-dermal fat accumulation.
-  In this situation, we can solve the problem with liposuction or laser lipo alone.
2.  Patients whose skin elasticity is fine but whose abdomen wall is enlarged.
-  For these patients, the desired result is obtained by making an incision of 3 to 4 cm and entering to do an endoscopy in order to repair the abdomen wall.
3.  Patients with loosening and sagging skin.
-  In this case, we need to remove the loose and problematic skin and repair the deformed muscles.

Tummy tuck operations may be required for patients who have deformation in their abdomen for a number of different reasons. The operation is needed especially in people who frequently gain and lose weight during and after pregnancy.

In summary, there are several different ways to carry out a tummy tuck. If there is not too much sagging on the skin, then an endoscopic tummy tuck can be done with an endoscope just by narrowing the abdominal wall from inside. A mini tummy tuck will be enough for people with excess skin, only on the lower parts of the tummy. If there is hernia all over the abdomen, then it is necessary to do a full tummy tuck.

What is Abdominoplasty surgery?

The common belief is that tummy tuck operations are very painful and difficult. With the developments in technology, this is not the case anymore.

Abdominoplasty surgery or inverse tummy tuck, is a method that is ideal for people who have lost the elasticity of their skin and abdominal muscles. In this surgery, the muscles are fully stretched from inside by building an inner corset. The entire skin between the belly and the caesarean line is removed and a flattened tummy image is created. Due to sedation of all the muscles inside at the end of the operation, the surgery is almost completely painless. Patients, can return home the next day after spending only one night at the hospital.

Who can benefit from abdominoplasty surgery?

Abdominoplasty surgery is suitable for anyone who has sagging skin in the tummy area for whatever reason. After pregnancy, particularly second pregnancies, a loosening can be experienced on the abdomen wall in the mid-tummy. This is caused by an opening in the muscles rather than formation of excess skin and abdominoplasty can remove this deformation of the tummy. Tummy tuck surgery, with or without an endoscope, is accessed via an incision where the muscles are collected in the middle or even as a bunch. In other words, a type of inner corset is built to both slim down the belly and correct the tummy. Following that, the problem is solved by removing the excess skin.

How long does an abdominoplasty operation last?

Abdominoplasty surgery takes a very short time, it is completed in one and a half hours to two hours.

When can the patient go back to normal life after abdominoplasty surgery?

After a corset abdominoplasty (inverse abdominoplasty) surgery, the patient stays in the hospital for one night and can return back to normal in around a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main factors to be considered before an abdominoplasty surgery?

As with all surgical procedures generally,  patients must abstain from taking blood thinners, limit drinking alcohol and smoking as much as possible and ideally, stop altogether in the last couple of days preceding surgery.

What factors should be considered after abdominoplasty surgery?

After the abdominoplasty surgery, the patient comes to the hospital room dressed in a compression garment. We recommend this compression garment is used for three weeks. Light walks can commence immediately after surgery but it is wise to wait one and a half months before undertaking heavy exercise.

Does the shape of the belly-button distort in an abdominoplasty surgery?

The belly-button is extracted from the skin without any change, so the shape stays the same, only a replacement is made.

What is the minimum age for an abdominoplastysurgery?

The tummy tuck operation is best undertaken after pregnancy if possible. There are no upper age limits in this surgery. It is possible to operate on people who are healthy and take good care of themselves, at any age.

Are any scars left after tummy tuck surgery?

If there is sagging in the skin, especially any excess under the tummy, the preferred size and location for the abdominoplasty scars is 4 cm on both sides, left and right of the caesarean scar line. This scar can usually be hidden behind bikini bottoms and turns into a thin, white line after the healing period.

Are there any problems with getting pregnant after a tummy tuck surgery?

There is no harm in getting pregnant one year after a tummy tuck surgery. If the person does not gain too much weight during pregnancy, the tummy will return to how it looked right after abdominoplasty.

Does the tummy lose its form in the case of weight gain after the surgery?

During the tummy tuck operation, the abdomen is narrowed and an inner corset is built. Patients usually lose weight after the surgery, but in the case of weight gain, the abdomen area does not return to its shape before the operation in any way, but maintains its proportion.

What is the right timing for a tummy tuck?

The right time for a tummy tuck operation for those who have given birth is the end of the first year. At the end of this period, the patient can lose as much extra weight as she can and the degree of sagging and stretchmarks settle. Ideally any weightloss should reach completion before the tuck since they are performed to correct the end results of a weight loss program. Best results are achieved if the patient has reached their ideal weight.

Can a tummy tuck and liposuction be performed simultaneously?

Yes. For the right patient and with the correct planning, a tummy tuck and liposuction can be carried out simultaneously.
